Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed service fraternity. It was founded on December 16, 1925 by Frank Reed Horton. Since its founding at Lafayette College, in Easton, Pennsylvania, Alpha Phi Omega has become the largest collegiate organization in the nation with around 711 chapters nationwide. It is continually expanding in the nation as well as internationally.

Frank Reed Horton founded Alpha Phi Omega after his service in World War I. Through his experiences in the war, he made a declaration that if he survived, he would try to positively change the lives of young men and try to the best of his ability to make the world a more peaceful and rational place. In his fourth year at Lafayette College, Frank Reed Horton and 13 other former Scouts founded Alpha Phi Omega on the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Since its founding in 1925, Alpha Phi Omega has spread its ideals of Friendship, Leadership, and Service to over 300,000 college students. As chapters are continuously forming across the nation, Alpha Phi Omega has begun international expansion with the forming of chapters in the Philippines, Canada, and Australia. In 1976, the National Convention voted to allow women to enter Alpha Phi Omega as Brothers. Today, Alpha Phi Omega is one of the fastest growing collegiate organizations. It has had many prominent alumni, such as Bill Clinton (the 42nd President), George H.W. Bush (the 41st President), and Michelle Obama (the 44th First Lady). Through Frank Reed Horton’s vision, Alpha Phi Omega is continually shaping the lives of young college students through the ideals of Friendship, Leadership, and Service.

Today, Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity has more than 17,000 male and female student members at 366 college campuses nationwide. Its mission is to prepare campus and community leaders through service. Its purpose is to develop leadership, to promote friendship and to provide service to humanity. Founded at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1925, it is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization headquartered in Independence, Missouri. More than 350,000 members have joined Alpha Phi Omega since its founding.
